Tennessee disciplines Pearl amid NCAA probe

NCAA Basketball Betting Lines

09/10/2010 - Knoxville, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The University of Tennessee has reportedly come down hard on the men's basketball program, most notably head coach Bruce Pearl for providing false and misleading information to the NCAA.

The university announced Friday a reduction in pay and suspension of off- campus recruiting duties for Pearl and his coaching staff in light of admissions by Pearl less than 24 hours after the Knoxville News Sentinel reported of the investigation.

The paper went on to indicate that impermissible phone calls to recruits were at the center of the probe, and the university announced Friday a quick decision of its own along with an emotional apology from Pearl himself at a hastily-called press conference.

"I've made some serious mistakes, and for that I'm truly sorry. I provided incorrect and misleading information to the NCAA," Pearl said. "I've learned some invaluable lessons...after I provided the false and misleading information, subsequently I went back and corrected the record. I learned that it's not okay to tell the truth most of the time, but that you have to tell the truth all of the time.

"I have no tolerable answer for why I didn't tell the truth the first time. I take full responsibility for my actions and those of my coaching staff. I apologize from the bottom of my heart that I let everybody down."

The Sentinel went on to detail the penalties against Pearl, including a reduction of $1.5 million from his contract that runs through June of 2015. It also said a retention bonus of $500,000, due in November 2012, will be delayed until the end of his contract.

In addition, Pearl will be suspended from all off-campus recruiting for one year beginning on September 24.

Similar sanctions were handed down for the rest of the coaching staff.

Stanley Cup betting

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.

The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.

MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.

Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
