03/02/2010 - Corvallis, OR (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Oregon State and men's head basketball coach Craig Robinson have agreed in principle on a two-year contract extension through the 2015-16 season.
The announcement from Oregon State director of athletics Bob De Carolis stated terms of the contract will be released in the near future.
Robinson left his head coaching position at Brown University following the 2007-08 season to take over a struggling OSU program that had just completed a miserable 6-25 season, becoming the first team in Pac-10 history to go 0-18 in conference play.
In Robinson's first season, the Beavers went 18-18 and captured the program's first postseason title in school history after taking the College Basketball Invitational tournament in a best-of-three series with UTEP.
"This extension represents a mutual commitment to the future of Oregon State men's basketball," said Robinson. "We will continue to recruit the best student-athletes, invest in our facilities and build a successful team on and off the court. We have ambitious goals and look forward to returning the Oregon State basketball program to prominence."
The Beavers are 13-15 this season with two games remaining on their schedule, bringing Robinson's ledger thus far to 31-33 -- the team's best two-year period since the 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons.
"This new agreement ensures his leadership will be felt for a long time and adds continued stability to the program," De Carolis said. "He has shown a keen understanding of how to build a program the right way and has already made significant strides in restoring the proud tradition of Oregon State men's basketball."
Robinson, the brother-in-law of U.S. President Barack Obama, was 30-28 in two seasons with Brown and led the Bears to a school record 19 victories in his final year. Prior to Brown, Robinson worked at Northwestern, where he spent six seasons with the Wildcats under head coach Bill Carmody.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.
